Requirements for the Accelerated, Five-Year Combined B.A. / M.S.W. Degree
with Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey

Caldwell College, in conjunction with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, offers an accelerated, five-year combined undergraduate/professional school education leading to the Baccalaureate (B.A.) and Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degrees for CaldwellCollege students.

Guidelines for admission to Rutgers School of Social Work are as follows:

A. Application by second semester of student’s junior year. Deadline: February 1.

B. Interview during the month of February of the student’s junior year by an individual selected by Rutgers University School of Social Work

C. Sufficient coursework in social and behavioral sciences by the end of the student’s junior year. Specifically, students must have completed:

1. All core curriculum requirements. (60 credits) For their Natural Sciences requirement, students must choose either BI 103/BI 103L Biological Principles/Lab or BI 110 The Human Body. There are no other limitations in completing core requirements.

2. Completion of all the existing requirements for the sociology major, with the exception of the SO 479 Cooperative Education or SO 489 Field Internship requirement. Students will fulfill their field experience requirement at Rutgers University. (30 credits)
(The remaining 30 credits required for degree completion at Caldwell College will be taken in the student’s senior year at Rutgers University.)

D. Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher by the end of the first semester of the student’s junior year, with final admission contingent on maintaining this GPA

E. Certification by Academic Dean of the award of the BA degree from Caldwell College following completion of the first year of full-time study at Rutgers

F. Part-time students and students transferring to Caldwell College are eligible for this program, provided that they have met all of the above requirements by their junior year. Students who have transferred credits from another institution must provide a copy of all of their transcripts to Rutgers University.
