PHYSICS COURSES

PY 101 Survey of the Physical Sciences (3 credits)

Familiarize the students with the basic concepts and vocabulary of astronomy, chemistry, geology and physics. Presents science as an integrated body of knowledge with shared methods of problem resolution.

PY 104 Astronomy (3 credits)

Studies the solar system, stars and galaxies; their characteristics and the laws that affect them.

PY 109 Physical Science Within the Law (3 credits)

Examines the role of physical science in criminal investigations and government regulations. Stresses scientific

PY 201 General Physics I (3 credits)

Focuses on the fundamental principles and phenomena of physics; motion, Newton's Laws, work and energy, momentum, rotational dynamics and machines. Course is quantitative and closely allied with mathematics. (Prerequisite: MA 131.)

PY 201L General Physics I Laboratory (1 credit)

Tests the laws derived in Py 201 through experimentation. (3 hour lab)

PY 202 General Physics II (3 credits)

Continues Py 201. Topics discussed are heat, light, sound, electricity and magnetism. (Prerequisite: Any 100 level math course; PY 101 or PY 201.)

PY 202L General Physics II Laboratory (1 credits)

Tests the laws derived in Py 202 through experimentation. (3 hour lab)
