| DATES: May 25 – June 1, 2006 We will visit Catania, Mt. Etna, Taormina, Siracusa, Palermo, Monreale, Corleone, Segesta, Cefalu. IT 341B Seminar in Sicily Explores the history and culture of this island region of Italy. Unique in its central location in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily has been conquered by successive waves of foreigners, leading to a composite culture with architectural remnants of the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, the Normans, the Hohenstaufens, the Spanish and the Bourbons. Students will do readings in the history and art of Sicily, keep a journal while in Sicily and prepare a research paper upon returning home. Satisfies core requirement AN225 OR SO323 Enjoy learning about the Multiculturalism of Italian tradition while studying in Sicily. The course will include lectures on a variety of topics concerning Italy and its culture. This course can be used to satisfy one of the following two courses – AN225 Cultural Anthropology (core), SO323 Sociology of Racial and Cultural Groups (sociology & criminal justice majors elective within major). Total cost includes, roundtrip air from Newark, round trip transfers,6 nights accommodations at first class hotels, Continental or buffet breakfast daily, 3 dinners, All sight seeing including entrance fees, Professional Tour Guide, Deluxe air conditioned motor coach, Hotel taxes & service charges, 1 piece of luggage porterage.
