Opera/Music Theatre Workshop Ensemble

Majors and non-majors with some experience in singing and reading music are welcome to audition for MU130 Opera and Music Theatre Workshop. This course culminates in at least one performance each semester. Applied Music for Voice is a required co-requisite for this course.  This fall semester the Garden State Opera, artists-in-residence, will use Caldwell students as chorus members and for small roles. The production will be performed on campus and in Clifton, NJ. Artistic director and composer Francesco Santelli is writing an original opera with leading roles for two of our music majors, Cara Pernas and Cristal Boniché. Laura Greenwald directs the opera workshop semester.

 Spring semester 2010 students in the music theatre workshop performed a concert reading of the first act of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Students work with professional directors from New York City metropolitan area. Nan Childress Orchard directs the music theatre workshop semester
