The Caldwell College Choir is a mixed voice ensemble of 25 students and staff, directed by Dr. Laura Greenwald, assisted by accompanist Warren Helms. Choir members come from as near as Caldwell and as far as Dallas, TX and include music majors, music minors and music lovers. The choir performs on the Christmas Spectacular and Music Department Spring concert each year, and sings for all major campus masses and events. In October of 2012, the Music Department celebrated the 25th anniversary of its re-opening by inviting Frank Archer to return to conduct the choir for the Homecoming Mass. Alumni and choir members from St. Elizabeth’s Church joined the college choir members.

Each fall the choir serves as the chorus for the Garden State Opera productions, having sung recently in Suor Angelica (Puccini) and L’Oca del Cairo (Mozart.) In October of 2010, Caldwell students performed the World Premiere of Il Negozio, a one act opera composed for them by GSO Artistic Director, Francesco Santelli. In October of 2011, the choir performed as the chorus for Donizetti’s full-length opera, L’Elisir D’Amore. Our repertoire ranges from choral standards such as Palestrina’s “Sicut Cervus” and Bernstein’s “Warm Up” to contemporary works by Ola Gjeilo, Randall Stroope and Darmon Meader.

The Caldwell College Choir has performed for services at St. John’s Episcopal Church (Montclair) St. Cassian’s Roman Catholic Church (Upper Montclair) and First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell. The choir was featured in concert on St. Peter’s Concert Series at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Essex Fells on May 7, 2011.

Caldwell College Choir was selected as the Cantorum Young Singers to perform with Schola Cantorum on Hudson during the 2012 spring season. They performed on concerts at Paul the Apostle Church near Lincoln Center in NYC and at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Montclair. It was thrilling to perform the Manhattan premiere of the choral cantata, Thresholds by Andrea Clearfield, and to work with the composer in preparing the piece.
