Sophos Antivirus for Mac Instructions

  • *IMPORTANT* After the program is installed you will need to make changes to the programs AutoUpdate settings.
  • If you are using MacOS 10.4 or higher click here to begin downloading the Sophos Remote Update application, this is a large file so it will take a little while to download.
  • Be sure that you have completely uninstalled any anti virus software currently on your computer.
  • When the installer finishes downloading it will open a window with a readme file and Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg. Double click the Sophos Anti-Virus icon to begin the installation.
  • If this window does not open, go into your downloads and click on savosx72sa.dmg
  • *IMPORTANT* After the program is installed a black or blue shield icon will appear next to the clock.
    • Click the shield and choose "open preferences".
    • Go to the AutoUpdate tab
    • Change Update From: to Company Web Server
    • Set address to
      http://av.caldwell.edu/mac

How to remove Sophos for the Mac

  • Go to Macintosh HD|Library|Sophos Anti-Virus
  • Select 'Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg'.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen.
