Graduate Research Assistantships

The Office of Graduate Studies offers a limited number of graduate research assistantships for new or continuing graduate students showing outstanding merit. Click here to find out more!

Graduate study at Caldwell College is designed for those whose prior accomplishments indicate an ability to benefit from graduate-level academic pursuits. The Center for Graduate and Continuing Studies is dedicated to the success of graduate students. In addition to the quantitative aspects of an applicant’s background, other elements such as letters of recommendation, work experience, and writing samples are considered as well in assessing candidates for admission. In those programs not requiring an interview, an applicant may request one. Each applicant’s credentials will be carefully reviewed by the appropriate program coordinator or selection committee. Caldwell’s rolling admissions policy allows candidates to apply for graduate programs throughout the year, up until a few weeks prior to the beginning of class for most programs. Applicants will be notified by mail within three weeks after all admission materials have been received. The exception to the rolling admission policy is the Off- Campus Leadership Development (OCLD) version of the M.A. in Educational Administration (see program description for details).

HOW TO APPLY

PLEASE CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW THE APPLICATION PROCEDURES.

In order to be officially considered for admission to Caldwell College graduate studies, applicants must provide all necessary information and records as follows. International applicants should also refer to information and policies stated on the International Student page (click here).

  • Complete the on-line application (click here).
  • Upon receipt of your on-line application, The Center for Graduate and Continuing Studies will contact you requesting the non-refundable fee of forty dollars ($40.00) and a signature certifying that the information you provided us is accurate.
  • Consult the Admissions Requirements checklist (click here) to see what must be submitted to complete your application to one of our programs. Full admission cannot be offered until an application is complete.
  • Applicants must have official transcripts of all previous college work (both undergraduate and graduate where applicable) sent directly to The Center for Graduate and Continuing Studies, Caldwell College, by the Registrar of the colleges or universities involved. No action will be taken on an application for which there is no official transcript.
  • The required number of letters of recommendation are to be sent directly to The Center for Graduate and Continuing Studies, Caldwell College. Request these letters from persons who are well acquainted with your academic and/or professional work. A printable copy of the Graduate Admission Recommendation form is available on-line (click here). Print out and complete as many forms as needed.
  • For those programs requiring the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), applicants should take the general test. Scores on the GRE, the GMAT, and the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) are to be sent directly to The Center for Graduate and Continuing Studies, Caldwell College, 120 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006 by the Educational Testing Service (GRE, GMAT) or The Psychological Corporation (MAT). • Non-native speakers of English must take the TOEFL examination offered by Educational Testing Service (609/771-7670). Minimum acceptable score is 580 (paper) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet based). Please note that these minimum scores are subject to change.
  • Transcripts provided from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by World Educational Services, P.O. Box 745, Old Chelsea Station, New York, NY 10113-0745. Email: info@wes.org . Toll free phone number: 800-937-3895.
  • Admission is "rolling" with application deadlines indicated on the application form and admission requirements chart. Applicants may register for six to eight credits (depending on the program) with the status of deferred matriculation while certain application credentials are pending arrival. TRANSFER POLICY

Graduate programs typically allow for the transfer of a limited number of credits from accredited institutions upon review and approval of the program coordinator and Associate Dean. Consult the graduate catalogue or the Program Coordinator for details.

NON-MATRICULATING STUDENTS

Individuals who have a baccalaureate degree and want to enroll in particular courses for personal or professional development without reference to matriculation in any degree or certification program may apply for admission as a non-matriculating student. Applicants to this status are expected to meet the minimum academic requirements as established for regular admission. This includes official verification of an earned baccalaureate degree. Admission on this basis does not imply acceptance in or eligibility for matriculation in any degree program, regardless of the number of credits undertaken on this basis.

Should a non-matriculating student wish to change to matriculating status, he or she must request admission through the Center for Graduate & Continuing Studies, provide all official credentials, and undergo review by the degree program coordinator or selection committee. Non-matriculating students may enroll for classes upon approval of the relevant program coordinator, but in any case for no more than 12 credits, cumulative. Credits earned with a minimum GPA of 3.0 while a non-matriculating student may be applied toward the graduate degree upon acceptance into a degree program.

VISITING STUDENTS

Students who are matriculating at another college or university and wish to enroll at Caldwell College for transfer to their home institution may apply as a visiting student.

Such students must submit with their application to Caldwell College an official letter documenting their status as a graduate student in good academic standing at their own institution. Ordinarily, visiting students may take up to six credits at Caldwell College. Transfer of these credits to the home institution is solely at the discretion of that institution.

AUDITING

Individuals who wish to take graduate courses for personal or professional development on a non-credit, ungraded, auditing basis may do so in select graduate courses designated by academic departments each semester. Those interested in auditing must apply as a nonmatriculating student and submit an application, fee, and transcripts which attest to an earned degree appropriate to the chosen program and a satisfactory cumulative GPA. Registration of auditors will take place only during the designated add-drop period, since priority must be given to matriculated students. Students may drop or withdraw for a refund within the initial two weeks of class only, and may not change the course from audit to credit status. Auditors pay half tuition.
