Following the tragic events at Virginia Tech University in the spring of 2007, Caldwell College intensified efforts to improve its mass communication capabilities to students, faculty and staff. The College already offers all of these groups their own free email account of the College sever, and the College can send all-campus e-mails for information purposes. However, the College recognizes that many students choose to communicate through alternative means on a regular basis (i.e cell phones; text messaging).
During the summer of 07, the College Safety and Information Technology Departments began a process to assess the wide variety of external services available to accomplish mass communication in the event of an emergency. As a pilot program, Caldwell College has contracted with E2Campus to provide this service. The College may choose to upgrade to a more varied service in the future after a contact database is developed.
The most important aspect of any mass communication system is for those who need to be contacted to supply the contact for the device they monitor the most frequently. This could be e-mail, text message, or voice mail (home or cell phone). Please realize that the contact information you submit will NOT be shared with any other department and will only be utilized in the event of a campus emergency.
Please choose the device you monitor most frequently. The more information you supply, the more effective the system will be. Please contact the College Safety Department if any of the information changes so that we can update it.
