Beginning in fall 2010, Caldwell College will offer three year degree programs that will allow students to complete a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Psychology in an accelerated period of time.
“This is an idea whose time has come, especially given the current state of the economy and the changes in education and the workplace. We are delighted that we are one of the very first colleges in New Jersey to get on board with this accelerated offering, which will give many students the opportunity to obtain a quality private liberal arts education while saving one year of time and money,” said Nancy H. Blattner, Ph.D., Caldwell College’s president. “For those students who are passionate about getting into the workforce or even going on for a master’s degree or further education quickly, this is very exciting. Their futures are not too far away,” Blattner said. She also said that the college is “constantly examining ways to help students afford a quality education in the current economy.”
In an article in last October’s Newsweek magazine former U.S. Education Secretary and current U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander wrote on extensive article entitled “Why College Should Take Only 3 Years.”
Caldwell College is known for its small class size, strong academic advising and a small student faculty ratio. “Caldwell College is the perfect college to implement a three year program because our business and psychology departments offer a large variety of both undergraduate and graduate courses and programs,” Blattner said.
“Students tell us they appreciate the small classes and faculty connectedness rather than being at other colleges with 100 students in a lecture hall,” said Dr. Lisa DiBisceglie, Associate Dean of Graduate & Continuing Studies.
To apply for the program, an incoming student must have an SAT score of at least 1100 and a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Those enrolled will attend for three years including either a summer or winter session. They will also have the chance to take advantage of short, one-week travel abroad experiences during either summer or winter sessions.
Those who wish to study in the combined BA/MBA program we will be able to complete both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in four years. Those in the combined Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Counseling Psychology can complete their degree in one year less.
