Incoming Students Enjoy Caldwell Eateries during Orientation

Caldwell, NJ – July 27, 2011 - Incoming freshmen and transfer students at Caldwell College have been enjoying the restaurants on Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell as part of their overnight Orientation experience this summer. During four different orientation sessions, the students were given the opportunity to pick which restaurant they would like to try out in the borough of Caldwell.

Sister Kathleen Tuite, O.P., Vice President of Residence Life at the college, said the aim was to introduce the students to all the wonderful restaurants the community has to offer. Plus, she says it was a great opportunity for the students to socialize together and get to know each other a little before the start of the semester.

On separate evenings in July the students, dorm resident assistants, and orientation leaders split up in groups and dined at area eateries including: The Cloverleaf Tavern, Rockn’ Joe’s, Mexican Mike’s, Eurogrill, Hog Wild BBQ, Calandra’s and Forte’s.

Michele Devoe, Director of Student Activities, made arrangements with the restaurant owners and managers and said they were terrific to work with. She said nearly 200 students ate at the restaurants during the four orientation sessions.

Many of the students, like Moses Riley of Jersey City who ate at Mexican Mike’s, said they would “most definitely” frequent the restaurants again. Michael Bennet from Plainfield was also at Mexican Mike’s. He said he’d like to come back on a Friday night, “the best time to go with friends.”

Ceyonna Fisher from Asbury Park was with the group that dined at Forte’s. She said her veal parmesan was “really good I will come back—probably tomorrow!”

Javier Lewis is a sophomore and resident assistant in the residence halls. He took a group to Hog Wild BBQ and said the evening provided a great opportunity to build a relationship between the college and the business community and expose the students to all the downtown has to offer.
