Caldwell College To Enter Agreement with the Veterans Administration
for Free Tuition Program Offer
Qualifying Veterans Can Receive Tuition-free Education
Caldwell College is entering an agreement with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs to provide a 50 percent match of tuition for established charges through the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) to allow qualified Post 9-11 veterans to attend college tuition free. The Caldwell program will begin in 2009-2010 academic year.
The Yellow Ribbon Program is available to veterans who have served at least 36 months of active duty after September 10, 2001. It is a provision of the post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The program allows institutions of higher learning that are degree granting institutions to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and then the VA will match the same amount as the institution.
Caldwell College has also agreed to provide discounts to veterans of the post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act who do not meet the requirements for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
Recently, the College was recognized as a military spouse friendly institution by the website www.military.com/spouse. Colleges and universities that receive the military spouse friendly institution designation have many attributes that cater to the unique lifestyle and situation of military spouses such as spouse scholarships, distance learning programs, evening or weekend programs and tuition discounts for spouses.
Dennis Delong, Ph.D., Dean of the Center for Graduate and Continuing studies said the College is proud to honor the service of members of the military and their families by welcoming them to become part of the extended family of Caldwell College."For the College to reach out to members of the military and their spouses is a natural extension of our mission generally and our long-term commitment to serve adult learners with innovative, accessible and high quality undergraduate and graduate programs.
