Caldwell College is offering a 5-year combined bachelor’s and master’s program that will enable future secondary education teachers to obtain a bachelor’s and master’s degree, as well as the state certification in teaching.
“This is exciting because our students will be able to save time and money while earning a bachelor’s in their subject area, a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, and the state certification needed to teach on the middle school or high school level. The student can finish in five years what normally takes about six years. ” said Jan Stewart, Ph.D., Chair of the Education Division.
Students will obtain a bachelor’s in English, Social Studies, Math or Science. The Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction prepares educators for leadership roles in their schools and enhances their professionalism and the quality of their teaching. The M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction also provides teachers with opportunities to conduct action research in their classrooms. Through this research, teachers will develop greater competence in their disciplines, while discovering innovative and effective approaches to teaching and learning.
Statistics show there is a need for qualified teachers in Math and Science across the nation. “We know this program will fill a need in those subject areas too,” said Stewart.
