Education The Education Division held an Orientation meeting for undergraduate and Post Baccalaureate student teachers and their college supervisors and cooperating teachers on September 15.  Dr. Janice Stewart, Associate Dean of the Division, and Dr. Robert Rosado welcomed the group.  The agenda included an overview of the full semester's activities and an explanation of the requirements of the program. Round table discussions were held and a light dinner was served.  There were many happy faces around the room as the students along with their cooperating teachers and supervisors arranged their calendars for the year!

A welcome meeting for Second Year Education students was held September 12. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

Davenport’s article to be published in Student Affairs Leader
Robin also attends legislative roundtable

Robin Davenport, Director of the Student Development Center and Director of Counseling, will have her essay "Promoting the Mature Psycho-Social Development of College Students through our Use of Language" published in the Student Affairs Leader, a campus life newsletter. Davenport contends in her article that college staff and faculty stunt the psycho-social development of college students by referring to them as "kids" rather than as young men and women.  She argues that by making a simple shift in language use, college communities can bring about positive developmental changes for students.

Robin also participated in a legislative roundtable discussion on June 15 in Cherry Hill on proposed legislation pertaining to mental health issues and higher education.  Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt, Vice-Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee for the New Jersey General Assembly, is sponsoring two assembly Bills on these issues.   Davenport and other representatives from New Jersey colleges and mental health agencies had the opportunity to provide feedback regarding the proposed legislation.  “The discussion proved to be an excellent forum for examining the issues surrounding the behavioral health of college students,” Davenport said.  In addition, Davenport was recently elected as a Board Member of the New Jersey Association of College Counselors.
