Library Services for Students with Special Needs

The Jennings Library is committed to helping all students achieve academic success while enrolled at Caldwell College and works to provide the physical, technological and support services to ensure that success.

Physical accommodations

There are two handicapped parking spaces available at the front entrance to the Jennings Library. There is a ramp at the Library Theater entrance and automated doors into the building. The library is on three floors and an elevator is provided for students with restricted mobility at the Library Theater entrance. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located in the alumni theatre on the mezzanine off the ground floor and can be accessed by selecting 1S on the elevator and then using the automated wheelchair lift.

Technological accommodations

Our assistive workstation PC located in the Reference Room provides access to the Kurzweil 3000 Screen Reader program and a scanner. Attached to the workstation is a text magnifier. A hand held magnifier is also held at the Circulation Desk. The Library’s catalog, CalCat is available online through the Library’s homepage. The library also offers access to online journals, databases and other reference materials via the Library’s homepage. Access to these materials is with your Caldwell College NetId username and password. Jennings Library owns hundreds of closed captioned videos and DVDs. To locate these titles, search the Library Catalog under the subject “video recordings for the hearing impaired.” Interlibrary loan of large print and audiobooks from other libraries is available.

Support Services accommodations

If you need help finding materials on the shelves or with reaching or lifting books please ask a member of the staff for assistance. Photocopiers are located on both the ground and third floor of the building. Please ask a staff member if you need assistance using the machine. If you have difficulty reading small print, you can use the copiers to enlarge text. If you find it difficult to read text on white paper, simply ask for colored paper at Circulation Desk. The library offers writing help with their Tutoring Too!! Program.
If you desire an individual introduction to the library’s collections or services, simply use the “Ask A Jennings Librarian” link from the homepage to schedule an appointment.
