HUMAN RESOURCES UPDATE

April 2008

Performance evaluation season 2008 is already upon us. Links to the calendar and forms were emailed to supervisors of exempt staff who are now in the process of completing self-evaluations and setting plans and priorities for fiscal 2009. New hires attended training on April 4th. Supervisors are asked to remain mindful of the deadlines published on the calendar as the process is more compressed now than it had been in years past.

Supervisors of exempt staff attended a training update on April 9th. At this session, we reviewed the process and shared tips for success in the use of the evaluation instrument as a coaching tool. We also provided an update on the engagement of Sibson Consulting to perform a comprehensive review of the compensation policy and process for administrative staff. Meetings have already taken place with HR and the Executive Administration and Sibson Consulting representatives. HR has completed the initial data collection phase and the analysis has begun. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2008 yielding professional recommendations for positive enhancements and changes to Caldwell's current compensation and evaluation structure for administrative staff.

Many thanks to the Admissions and Student Activities teams for presenting "..a Day in the Life of" their respective departments. Judging by the consistently enthusiastic attendance at these events, employees are benefitting from the information presented while enjoying a fun and entertaining luncheon with colleagues. HR plans a fourth year of the Brown Bag Series for the 2008 -2009 academic year. If your department has not yet presented, please give us a call to schedule for the fall. If we don't hear from you, we know where to find you!

FREE LUNCH!!! Delta Dental was on campus on April 16th for a dental health lunch 'n learn. They provided a full lunch in the Student Center gym and presented some good information and fun raffles and giveaways. The event was attended by some thirty five employees.

Spring is in the air which means that bathing suit season is just around the corner! HR wants to know who is interested in participating in Weight Watchers at Work. If we have enough people, we can schedule a weekly meeting on campus and shed a few pounds along with our winter coats! Meetings are forty five minutes and would be scheduled around the lunch hour. The standard program is twelve weeks for $156 per person paid up front. Depending on the level of interest, other options may be available. Please call ext. 3669 as soon as possible if you are interested and for more information.

SAVE THE DATES! The next Supervisors Forum is scheduled for June 11th. Supervisors of exempt employees are invited to share information and gain insights into effective interviewing skills and techniques for a variety of situations.

Summer Survivors 2008 is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20th. It's a busy time as we wind down the summer and gear up for a new academic year, but plan accordingly and join us for an enjoyable luncheon. The theme, as always, is top secret!

Keep sending those emails to KeepThePromise@Caldwell.edu. What better way to let others know they are appreciated in their efforts to serve our students? Following are some excerpts to demonstrate the goodwill that is spread on campus through this team building initiative:

"Many thanks for your help with our events. What started with a simple request has evolved into your willing participation on our set-up team! Thanks for being such a team player and such a positive energy on campus."

"I would like to thank you for your assistance on such short notice. I appreciate your quick response."

"Please send a thank you to let her know we could not have done it without her. Her help and thoughtfulness was wonderful!"

"Thank you, thank you, thank you for responding to our emergency…and with a beautiful smile on your face too!!"
