2004 Senior Thesis Exhibitions

"Mother and Child"Alicia Marcucilli
After researching an Abstract Expressionist painter, Willem De Kooning, I was inspired to create my Senior Exhibit. I combined his ideas of aggressively applying color and brush strokes spontaneously (automatism) to the ideas of some modern psychologists. I focused on the theories of female dependence, i.e. women have a tendency to be dependent in search for something else.

The six canvas painting form a whole unit, to show how a woman is not complete until she has her other “missing pieces.”

For my thesis, titled “Decades of Rebels”, I redesigned the graphics of three classic rebel movies, “American Grafitti”, “The Breakfast Club” and “Dazed and Confused”. My campaign, consisting of posters, billboards, print ads and CD covers, advertises the three movies together, as a series, as well as individually. In redesigning these graphics I relied on modern computer technology and my own artistic interpretation to create graphics that not only advertise but also present images that become memorable to the viewer.
"Hilltop"Ryan Smith
My specific goal for this thesis was the creation of landscapes that are reflective of my personal life experiences, and how the appearance of the New Jersey landscape has changed over time. The particular landscapes were chosen to represent different areas of a community that has evolved from mostly farmland to suburban sprawl.

After researching famous Japanese printmakers Kitagawa Utamaro and Hishikawa Moronobu, I focused on their specific subject matter, use of line, and the way in which the artists indicated depth and detail within their prints. Wall Hanging

From looking at many prints each of the artists have made, I thought of how these prints would look three dimensionally, much larger in scale, and with color. With this goal in mind, I created two Japanese wall hangings of different materials, one in origami the other sewn fabric, incorporating inspiration from prints made by these two artists.

My Senior Thesis is about the transformation of common objects into works of art. I achieved this transformation by taking away the function of the original objects through contradiction and exaggeration of both material and scale. This work is influenced by Claes Oldenburg’s Pop art and the minimalist/constructivist work of Martin Puryear.
"Tri-Fold Brochure"Mari Ippolito
The goal of this thesis exhibition was to create an ad campaign for an existing property, the 297th Combat Engineer Museum. The work of Edward Hopper and WWII advertising posters and ads were used as reference and to inspire the direction of the campaign. The use of vintage photos and type styles, and 1940’s era color schemes achieved a nostalgic look that could be combined with the strategy behind a modern advertising campaign.
"Boy"Jessica Ribaudo
The photographer casually captures an intimate relationship or shared experience that the viewer can observe and relate to.  Ambiguous moments of thought can lie frozen the instant the picture is taken.  These photographs are a culmination of my search for that spontaneous moment of time and place.
