WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:

  • Internships are available in virtually every major course of study.
  • You are eligible to participate if you have completed 60 credits (junior status) and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Credit for certain internships may be available if you have completed 45 credits (second semester sophomore status) and have at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Three (3) credit internships require 120 hours
  • Two (2) credit, 80 hour internships are now available, subject to approval
  • Internships are usually unpaid learning opportunities, in which students typically work 10-15 hours per week
  • To receive credit, begin the process early (well before the semester in which you plan to enroll for credit). You must secure a position, receive faculty advisor approval and obtain and complete registration paperwork, all before the end of the semester’s drop/add period. You must register for your internship before you log hours.
  • Career Planning and Development can help you find internships, navigate the registration process and make the most of your experience.
  • Academic credit is awarded under the guidance of a faculty advisor.

Benefits of Internships:

  • Apply classroom knowledge to the work world.
  • Gain experience related to your major and interests.
  • Explore possible careers and learn about career paths.
  • Add real-life skills and experience to your resumes.
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and create a more rewarding college experience.
  • Develop job search skills such as interviewing techniques.
  • Establish a network of professional contacts, mentors and references for after graduation.
  • Students may pursue internships for experience, academic credit, or both. Career Planning is here to help you find opportunities related to your interests and goals.
