Candidates for the freshman class at Caldwell College are selected based on:
- Completed application for admission
- Satisfactory performance on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) with essay or American College Test (ACT) with essay
- An official high school transcript or official results from G.E.D. exam
- A class rank indicative of serious preparation for college.
- Completion of sixteen units of work in college preparatory courses. These should include successful completion of four units of English, two units of foreign language, two units of college preparatory mathematics, two units of science (at least one of which must be laboratory science), one unit of history, and other college preparatory courses. A student who has sixteen units but has not satisfied all the prerequisites may be admitted on the recommendation of the Committee on Admissions provided evidence is given of ability to pursue college work.
- At least one written recommendation from the candidate's high school guidance counselor.
- Completion of an application essay topic or a graded written assignment/paper.
