2007 - 2008 Season At A Glance

Caldwell
College Concert Series celebrates its twelfth season of presenting outstanding
solo and ensemble performances of jazz and classical music. This year
we continue to present concerts and workshops with our ensembles in residence,
Garden State Opera and Gramercy Brass Orchestra of NY! The spring season
features music by American composers.
Group and subscription discounts are available through advance purchase
by mail. Individual tickets may be purchased by mail or at the door.
Each concert will be followed by a reception at which you may
meet and greet the performing artists.
Concerts will be in the Student Center or Alumni Theatre with reception following.
Admission: $15 General, $12 Students and Seniors
Group Discount: 10 or more tickets to single concert

Music of Brazil: David Burgess
Saturday, September 29, 2007 8 PM Alumni Theatre
David Burgess, who has studied with Andres Segovia, has performed throughout
North and South America, Europe and the Far East and won many guitar competitions.
This program includes a variety of styles from Brazilian ragtime to Bossa
Nova by composers ranging from the popular Antonio Carlos Jobim to the
legendary band leader, Pixinguinha.
Co-sponsored by the Alumni Association as a Theatre on the Hill Concert.
Terzetta
Tuesday, October 23, 2007 8 PM Alumni Theatre
Terzetta, a newly-formed chamber ensemble, performs a variety of music
from the Baroque to the 20th century. Rebecca Vega, flute, Jacqueline
Stern, cello and Nan Childress Orchard, piano, are all veterans of the
concert stage and have pooled their talents to present a selection of
works by Bach, Martinu, Weber, and Haydn.

The Marriage Counselor by F. Santelli
(Sung in English with projected titles)
A young couple seeks the help of a marriage counselor to save their marriage.
Through his unexpected connections, they realize that the solution to
making their marriage work is closer than they imagined.
L’Impresario
by W.A. Mozart
(Sung in German with English dialogues and projected titles)
Helga Singspiel, an aging Diva and Maria Colavoce, an aspiring Diva (and
a host of others) exhibit their vocal virtuosity for the Impresario
“Simon”, hoping to become the next “star” of Austrian
Idol. English dialogues adapted by director Susan Gonzalez.
The Garden State Opera is based in Clifton, and performs in Passaic, Essex and Bergen Counties with singers and musicians from the NYC metro area. Founder and artistic director, Francesco Santelli, has been music director of the Henry Street Opera in New York City and conducted many opera and orchestral performances in the U.S. and Italy. He has composed five operas and is composer in residence for the Assisi Music Festival.

Join the Caldwell College Choir and Wind Ensemble to celebrate the holiday season! The Caldwell College Choir will perform holiday selections under the direction of Richard Garrin. The Caldwell College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Rebecca Vega will perform seasonal music concluding with our annual carol sing along!

Seasons Chamber Players: American Connections
Thursday, February 28, 2008 8 PM Alumni Theatre
This program provides an accessible and entertaining sampling of works
by American composers including Samuel Barber, Elisenda
Fabregas, Robert Ward and Arthur Foote. Performers include Brenda Sakofsky,
flute; Robert Lawrence, violin; E. Zoe Hassman, cello; Yoojin Oh and Jean
Strickholm, piano. Each piece will be introduced to the audience by Program
Director Robert Lawrence.
Jazz
Inspired Classics: Eric Olsen, Pianist
Thursday, March 6, 2008 8 PM Alumni Theatre
Pianist Eric Olsen is a master of both classical and jazz styles. Jazz
Inspired Classics shows how the rhythms and inflections of jazz music
have influenced American composers working in the European classical tradition.
Jazz Inspired Classics includes jazz, blues, boogie-woogie and ragtime
works for solo piano by the composers Copland, Gould, Schuller, Nancarrow,
Baker, Berkowitz, Carriker, Kozinski, and Laufer. Come enjoy an exceptional
performance of outstanding and unexplored 20th century piano literature!
Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York
Sunday, April 13, 2008 4 PM Student Center Auditorium
Gramercy
Brass Orchestra of New York brings their unique sound and style to Caldwell
College as ensemble in residence. Led by artistic
director, John Henry Lambert, the Gramercy Brass will perform a concert
of American music, featuring works from their new CD of compositions by
Dave and Chris Brubeck, “Brubeck in Brass.”
A pre-concert workshop (2:00-3:00 PM) with the principal players of
the Orchestra will be offered to students and directors who pre-register
