Requirements for Elementary School with Subject Area Specialization Endorsement (Middle School)
For traditional Undergraduates/Post-Baccalaureate Students:
All students must take the following five courses:
- AN 225 Cultural Anthropology
- GY 335 World Geography
- HI 203/204 Growth of the American Nation I & II
- PO 225 American Government
Experienced teachers may choose to opt out of any of the above courses in which they have previous teaching experience. Any of the following courses may then be substituted:
- HI 210 Women in History
- HI 213 History of New Jersey
- HI 218 The Holocaust
- HI 220 African-American History
- HI 317 Native American History
- HI /PO 331 History and Politics of Asia
- HI /PO 333 History and Politics of Africa
- HI /PO 337 History and Politics of Latin America
- HI /PO 338 History and Politics of the Middle East
- HI 405 American Constitutional History
- BU 101 Survey of Economics
- SO 101 Introduction to Sociology
Any substitution of courses may only be made with the written approval of the Chairpersons of the Departments of Education and History & Political Science. Courses taken to fulfill core curriculum requirements may not also be used to fulfill major requirements.
The student must meet all requirements of the Division of Education concerning admission, continuance, and completion of the program.
The student must complete the Behavioral/Social Sciences requirement and the Professional Sequence.
